  • UPY students develop Javanese Mathematics Comic Media

Three students of PGRI Yogyakarta University (UPY) succeeded in developing mathematics learning in Temugiring Village Village using Javanese Mathematics Comic media. The media is used to remind the interests and learning achievements of mathematics children aged elementary school assisted by Temugiring Village. The three students, namely Kharisma Safitri Indahsari, Sudrajat, and Muhamad Devi Setya Ramadhan. The three are students from the UPY Mathematics Education Study Program.

Temugiring Village Village is located in Kedung Ranti Hamlet RT 03/06, Nglipar Village, Nglipar District, Gunung Kidul Regency, DIY Province. Kampung Read Temugiring is a place of learning and reading for children in Temugiring Village, Kedung Ranti Hamlet, Nglipar Village. The reading village was established on February 7, 2018. The learning and reading activities in the reading village were held every Saturday. However, learning activities in Kampung Read Temugiring do not have variations or learning methods such as using comics. In fact, comics can facilitate the learning process and can increase memory. Especially for children will be more interested and enthusiastic in learning by using picture comics.

The beginning of the development of mathematics learning media was based because one of UPY students, namely Kharisma Safitri when seeing learning in Kampung Reading Temugiring was less than optimal, especially in the field of mathematical studies. That is because the interest in learning, especially the mathematics of the children of Kampung Temugiring, is lacking and the absence of learning media that can attract interest or enthusiasm in learning and motivation to learn the mathematics of Temugiring village children. So that it also has an impact on the learning achievement of Mathematics Children of Kampung Reading Temugiring Low. This is evidenced by the mathematical values of the children of Kampung Reading Temugiring at school.

According to the children in the village reading Temugiring, they consider the books they have used very boring and does not make them motivated to learn because of many writings. They prefer pictures and stories. In addition, what makes them feel lazy to read the books that exist because the language contained in these books is in Indonesian. While they because daily wearing local languages make them more comfortable and fluent in using their local language, namely Javanese. Starting from this experience, the three UPY students namely Kharisma Safitri, Sudrajat and Muhamad Devi tried to overcome the problem by creating Javanese -speaking mathematical comic media. This media is to increase the interest and learning achievement of Mathematics Children in Kampung Temugiring.

To maintain the sustainability of the program, the three UPY students namely Kharisma Safitri et al also conduct training using Corel Draw, Photoshop, and make comics for the management of Temugiring Village. Thus, the management of Temugiring Village Village can make and develop other comics as a learning medium for Temugiring Village Children.

Under the guidance of UPY Mathematics Education Lecturers, Kintoko, M.Pd, learning with Steel Commins has been carried out in Kampung Reading Temugiring. Learning using steel komat is carried out 2 times a week with material according to the story in the comic. Every time a meeting one subject. After that, if finished using comics, children will be immediately given practice questions that are directly done on the blackboard to practice the confidence of the children of Kampung Reading Temugiring.

The characteristic of this comic media is the language used in comics to help children who are more comfortable using Javanese in learning. It is hoped that the media can help the management of Temugiring Village in developing the learning media of Temugiring Village Children.

  • Technical Guidance for Management of Website LLDITUKIK REGION V for Higher Education Admin

Yogyakarta – Region V Higher Education Service Institute organizes technical guidance in the management of the LLDIKTI website V for the Higher Education website admin (5/22). The event which was held in the main courtroom of the LLDIKTI Regional Office V presented Dyan Galih Nugroho Wicaksi, an information technology activist focused on the web and mobile, as well as cyber and mobile security.

The event began with a report from Aswan Komantara, SH as the Chairperson of the Panita and continued remarks and exposure to the Head of LLDIKTI Region V, Prof. Dr. Didi Achjari, S.E., M.com., AKT who conveyed the focus of this activity so that universities can display information as clearly as possible on the page that is owned so that the public can directly access the information needed. During this time many outside parties such as Ombudsman, students to the general public who are still looking for information related to universities such as accreditation, study programs, etc. through LLDIKTI Region V.

Followed by the presentation of the resource person, Dyan Galih Nugroho Wicaksi, who conveyed the use of information technology to revive the campus. Some points delivered by speakers related to the management of a website not on a good website appearance problem or not, but how a website describes the identity of the college (characteristics of the university) by displaying information as clearly as possible. A good website is that the content is always updated, not on its appearance. No matter how good the website is but not updated the content, it will not be visited (useless).

Furthermore, the resource person said that the media dissemination of information is not only through the website, so that universities are expected to also have social media such as LinkedIn, Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter as a medium for disseminating information. The advantage of having social media for tertiary institutions is to be able to see feedback from people who access social media. By utilizing tools and features on social media is also a time efficiency because one information can be shared directly to several social media at once.

Website managers must also access Google Analityc to see feature bounce rates. The higher the bounce rate, our website can be said to be unattractive. Visitors only open the website’s start page without opening or reading other content, and vice versa. The website should also be designed mobile friendly because the current trend is more accessing online information via mobile phone. Making a website is not merely just to display the information they have, but also must pay attention to who the audience is from the website. News on the website should be made categories so that the audience can immediately find the content to be accessed.

Some other things that can be learned for the college web admin are website content that does not have to be made by the website manager, another thing that can be done is to use the contributor so that the website is always updated . Examples of contributors to the college website are students, lecturers and alumni. As well as utilizing Google Trend to compare the trends of a topic because it can be used as a filter for what news website managers can be displayed on the web. Utilization of the right Google Trend also has the advantage of our website will be in the Top Rank Search Engine.

The event ended with an account giving to the Higher Education Web Manager as a contributor in filling the news content about his tertiary institutions to be uploaded on the LLDIKTI WEB page V.

  • Macabre, Learning Media Calculates for Blind Students SLB Negeri 1 Bantul Results of Upy Student Development

Mathematics learning media for blind students who can be used for practice questions with the game method do not exist in SLB Negeri 1 Bantul. In fact, the practice of counting questions is very useful to practice the mathematical abilities of blind students. Starting from this problem, three students from the University of PGRI Yogyakarta (UPY) namely Afida Vona, Kharisma Safitri Nur Indahsari, and Erdin Vernanda Sutrisna made the media for training in blind students who were named Mathematics Card Braille (Macabre) .

The solution to make a braille mathematics card starts from the course of the mathematics learning strategy followed by charisma. In the course, charisma made card media for general students. Then, after the problem was found at SLB Negeri 1 Bantul Card was developed for blind students.

Based on information from SLB Negeri 1 Bantul teacher, currently mathematical displays for blind children for exercise questions are still minimal. The development of learning media for blind children is very dependent on the creative teacher and the independence of children. This was also felt by Mr. Puji as the teacher of the Blind Student SLB Negeri 1 Bantul who was a teacher with blind. According to him, this card can help blind students in training the mathematical abilities of blind students.

This Macabre card consists of a question card and answer card. How to play, the child takes a question card then the other child answers the questions in the question card. While the answer card, is used to be a choice of difficult questions. On this card there are braille codes in the box so that blind students can use this card without a companion.

According to Lana (blind student in grade 3 elementary school), the Macabre card can make Lana feel challenged to use the card continuously. The card makes him feel happy in the learning process of mathematics.

This Macabre Card Making Program will continue because in SLB Negeri 1 Bantul there is a production room to make up and available materials to make braille cards. Thus, Bantul SLB 1 SLB teachers can make and develop Macabre cards with questions or other materials.

Under the direction of UPY Mathematics Education Lecturer, Mrs. Siska Candra Ningsih, M.Sc, the application of the use of Macabre has been carried out at SLB Negeri 1 Bantul 10 times since April 30, 2019. According to students -Students who have played using Macabre, they are greatly helped in practicing their mathematical abilities. So, we hope this media can continue to help other blind students in other schools.

Furthermore, learning games using Macabre are carried out independently by blind teachers and blind students SLB 1 Bantul.
