In order to accelerate the transfer of knowledge, especially in the fields of education and technology between China and Indonesia, the Chinese government through the Jiangsu Vocational Institute of Commerce (JVIC) provides a quota of 20 scholarships to lecturers and students at PGRI Yogyakarta University to study Mandarin and e-commerce analysis directly to China. for 1 year. This was confirmed by the Chancellor of JVIC on Wednesday, 20 December 2023 in the Chancellor’s Room at PGRI University Yogyakarta during the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between UPY and JVIC. The MoU was signed by the Chancellor of UPY, Dr. Ir. Paiman, M.P., with JVIC Vice President Ju Zhang Zhì.

Also present at the signing ceremony were JVIC leaders Ms. Geweili (Director of the International Exchange Office/Dean of the School of International Education of JVIC) and Mr. Dingdebo (Deputy Dean of Digital Business School, JVIC). UPY Chancellor Dr. Ir. Paiman. M.P explained that UPY and JVIC have common ground to jointly develop a digital business study program. This was agreed by Ju Zhang Zhi considering the similarity of vision in the digital business sector between UPY and JVIC. Both parties then agreed to establish this collaboration with implementation in the form of online lectures covering the fields of e-commerce data analysis, promotions and Mandarin.
Apart from offering scholarships to study for one year to UPY lecturers and students at JVIC, UPY graduates who master Mandarin also have the opportunity to apply for jobs at JNT center, as JVIC company partners in China. Apart from that, to help develop the Faculty of Education and the Faculty of Agriculture, the Chancellor of JVIC offered to help communicate with university leaders around JVIC who have a Faculty of Education and a Faculty of Agriculture so that in the future collaboration can further develop.

Closing the meeting, souvenirs were handed over from UPY and JVIC, the event ended with a group photo session between UPY officials and JVIC officials.

Foreign cooperation and scientific publications were topics that were intensively studied during a visit to the University of Medan Area (UMA) on Thursday, December 7 2023, which took place in the Chancellor’s Room of Universitas PGRI Yogyakarta (UPY). On that occasion, a “Memorandum of Understanding” (MoU) was also signed between UPY and Medan Area University. On this occasion, the Chancellor of the University of Medan Area (UMA) conveyed several challenges facing UMA. The first challenge is related to scientific publications. In this context, the Chancellor of PGRI Yogyakarta University (UPY), Dr. Ir. Paiman, MP, gave an example of the Acceleration of Reputable International Journals (AJIB) program at UPY. The AJIB program helps lecturers in writing and provides financial stimulation. UPY also applies sanctions in the form of cutting functional position allowances by 50% for one year for lecturers who do not have scientific publications at least in the Q4 category.

The second challenge faced by Medan Area University is the lack of cooperation with foreign countries. In this case the Deputy Chancellor III, Dr. Septian Aji Permana, S.Pd., M.Pd, provided a solution by stating that UPY opened up opportunities for collaboration with UMA through the International Transnational Education Association (ITEA) program, where UPY already had experience of collaborating with ITEA.

The final challenge for UMA is related to student exchange. In this case, the Chancellor of UPY offered a solution by stating UPY’s readiness to carry out exchanges of students, lecturers, visiting professors, and all activities that cover aspects of the Tri Dharma of Higher Education. The event closed with the presentation of mementos in the form of souvenirs and joint photos between UMA and UPY officials.

Increasing human resources and university development was a hot topic during the visit of the Yogyakarta AAN College of Administrative Sciences (STIA”AAN”) on Thursday, November 23 2023, which took place in the Chancellor’s Room at Universitas PGRI Yogyakarta (UPY). In this activity, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was also signed between Universitas PGRI Yogyakarta and AAN Yogyakarta College of Administrative Sciences. The signing was carried out in the UPY Chancellor’s room, attended by Dr. Ir. Paiman, M.P as Chancellor of UPY, and Mr. Happy Susanto, S. Sos., M.A., M.P.A as Chair of STIA”AAN” Yogyakarta.
Also present at the event were UPY leaders, including Drs. Johannes Sabari, M.Si. (Chair of the YP Management), Dr. Septian Aji Permana, S.Pd., M.Pd (Deputy Chancellor III), and Pebri Prihatmoko, S.Pd., M.Eng (Secretary of KUI). From STIA”AAN” Yogyakarta, present Sugiyanto, S.T., M. P.A. (Vice Chancellor I) and R.R.E. Anggraeni E.W., S.I.P., M.P.A. (Vice Chancellor II).

During the meeting, UPY and STIA”AAN” exchanged ideas to improve the quality and achievements of each institution. This discussion covers various aspects, including improving the quality of lecturers, increasing the number of study programs, and building facilities as a strategy to increase institutional achievement and competitiveness.

The Chancellor of STIA AAN explained that in his efforts to develop the campus he encountered several quite serious challenges. The toughest challenge faced is expanding the number of study programs at STIA AAN. In response to this, the Chancellor of UPY provided a solution that STIA AAN must change the nomenclature from High School to University. By changing to a university, it will be easier to increase the number of study programs. By increasing the number of study programs, students automatically have more choices, so more students will register. This will later increase campus income, so that the campus will develop more in terms of infrastructure and human resources. Apart from that, the UPY Chancellor gave advice to always involve the foundation in every meeting, planning and decision making. This aims to maintain harmonious relations between the institution and the foundation, so that the institution’s programs will be supported by the foundation.

Furthermore, the rectors of both universities agreed that the signing of this MoU was just a ceremony, the most important thing was the cooperation program which would later run hopefully to provide benefits for both parties in order to improve the quality of education in Indonesia. At the end of the session the event closed with the presentation of mementos from UPY to STIA AAN and a group photo between UPY officials and STIA AAN officials.

Universitas PGRI Yogyakarta (UPY) sent two representatives to attend the Fifth ASEAN – China Forum of Private Higher Education Development and Cooperation and the third annual meeting of the ASEAN – China Alliance for Private Higher Education Institutions (ACAPHEI), which took place on 5-6 December 2023 at University of Sanya (USY), China. UPY lecturers in the ACAPHEI global class program were represented by Guruh Ghifar Zalzalah, S.E., M.Sc, together with Nugraeni Putrie Windarti as student representatives.
On the first day, December 5 2023, participants were taken to get to know Yazhou Bay Science and Technology City, Sanya, to provide and introduce developments and innovations in the field of science and technology in Sanya. After being invited around, participants then took part in the ACAPHEI Forum activities in the Lecture Hall, Shushan Hall, which was opened by Prof. Dr. Lu Dan, President of Sanya University, Chairman of ACAPHEI, and Vice President of China Private Education Association. In his speech he expressed his hope that through this program it is hoped that he can improve the global status of the university by collaborating with the world of academia and industry. The aim is not only to create a university that is an example for others in achieving future excellence, but also to provide concrete solutions to advance the education sector as a whole.

From SEAMEO RIHED, represented by Center Director Asst. Prof. Dr. Romyen Kosaikanontyang explained that educational problems cannot be solved by one university alone. For this reason, forums like this are able to become a medium for sharing opinions in solving problems in the university level education system. The activity continued with a presentation from the first speaker Dr.Wang and Executive President, University of Sanya. Second Speaker, Mr. Phornvit Phacharintanakul Representative of CP Group-Advisor for Education, Healthcare & Wellness Business of CP All; Senior Vice President of Panyapiwat Institute of Management, Thailand. The third speaker, Mr. Vivakanandan Sinniah President of Association of Private Higher Education Institutions of Singapore, Executive Chairman, PSB Academy Singapore. The fourth speaker, Dr. Wirun Phichaiwongphakdee Thailand-China Research Center of the Belt and Road Initiative in Thailand Researcher, Thai-Chinese Strategic Research Center (TCRC) of the National Research Council of Thailand (NRCT).
On the second day, December 6, each team according to the ACAPHEI activity theme was taken for a Tour & Visit at USY. Students and lecturers from UPY had the opportunity to visit the language development class, which was guided by Ms. Anita is a lecturer from the Language and Creative Industries Institute and one of the language development class lecturers from USY. In this activity, Mr. Guruh Ghifar Zalzalah, S.E., M.Sc delivered language development material to students at USY and student representatives from Indonesia and Vietnam. The class atmosphere was very active because students presented their learning results and asked each other questions and answers to discuss language development directly.

The activity continued with the Annual Meeting of the ASEAN-China Alliance for Private Higher Education Institutions and Closing Ceremony of the Forum. Student representatives from each activity program presented the results of their classes and hopes for the ACAPHEI program in the coming year. The activity continued with the signing of the 2023 Joint Research Program MoU and the 2023 Student Multi Campus Mobility Program.
The activity closed with a speech from the 2024 Host University Representative. Asst. Increasingly established as a university with a complete choice of study programs (Prodi) in Yogya, Universitas PGRI Yogyakarta (UPY) officially opened two new study programs, namely Informatics Systems at the UPY Faculty of Science and Technology and Business Law Study Program at the UPY Business Faculty which is ready to accept students new in the 2024/2025 Academic Year.
“With the opening of 2 new study programs, there are now 28 study programs at UPY and as long as I am trusted by the Chancellor as long as my service is in line with the Foundation’s targets, we hope that UPY can open 40 study programs, all of which have potential in the world of work,” stressed UPY Chancellor Dr. Ir Paiman MP in his speech after receiving 2 Decrees on Permits from the Minister of Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia, Permits to Open the Business Law Study Program and the Information Systems Study Program.
The decree was handed over by the Yogyakarta Region V Higher Education Service Institute (LLDIKTI), Monday (18/12) in the UPY Rectorate Meeting Room, at UPY Campus 1, Jalan PGRI I Sonosewu No 117 Yogyakarta. “UPY is currently continuing to preen with the construction of magnificent buildings, improving facilities, including adding lecturers, experts, improving the quality of human resources in preparation for the opening of new study programs,” said the Chancellor
It is stated that the UPY Campus Buildings are spread across 4 locations. “We are preparing the new building on the 8th floor south of the Central Building (Campus 1) for the opening of the Medicine study program. We are also proposing a Masters in Management study program and several postgraduate study programs such as Guidance Counseling, English, Mathematics,” he explained.
It was emphasized that UPY, with its wide choice of complete study programs, has now become one of the private universities (PTS) of choice in Yogya. “Currently there are 6,500 students from various parts of Indonesia, still existing even during the Covid pandemic, interest in studying at UPY remains high, currently it is estimated that UPY will enter Rank 6 of the Top 10 PTS in Yogya,” he explained.
Meanwhile, Chairman of the UPY Advisory Foundation Armansyah Prasakti SH SPn MH is grateful that every year UPY can open a new Department (Prodi). “Until now, we have always been assisted and guided by LLDIKTI V Yogyakarta, opening new study programs to suit trends in society’s needs and answer the challenges of current technological developments. So that prospective students can choose existing majors that are complete and all of them are absorbed by the market,” he stressed.

Previously, the SK 2 Study Programs were handed over with the reading of the Minister of Education and Culture’s Decree No. 894/E/0/2023 concerning Permits to Open the Information Systems Study Program at UPY and the Minister of Education and Culture’s Decree No. 936 E/0/2023 concerning Permits to Open the Business Law Study Program at UPY. Followed by the signing of the handover of the Decree from the Head of LLDIKTI Region V Yogyakarta, Prof Drh Aris Junaidi PhD to the Chancellor of UPY Dr Ir Paiman MP witnessed by the Chair of the UPY Trustees Foundation Armansyah Prasakti SH SPn MH, and attended by lecturers, the Dean of UPY
In his speech, Prof Drh Aris Junaidi PhD appreciated the opening of a new study program at UPY which is a favorite study program with a graduate profile that is sure to be absorbed by the current job market. “The extraordinary profile of graduates from favorite study programs is an attraction for prospective students from outside the region to study in Yogya, for the Information Systems Study Program they can become professionals in Information Smart Systems, Analysts, Smart City Analysts and others. Meanwhile, the profile of Business Law graduates can become legal practitioners, “lawpreuner, bureaucrat who understands business law issues,” he said.
Furthermore, Aris received a commitment from the UPY Chancellor who would manage the two study programs in accordance with the proposed curriculum with competent infrastructure and teaching staff (lecturers). “After planning the implementation of the study program, it is under supervision and will receive repressive and preventive evaluations. So far we have seen a strong commitment from UPY both in terms of curriculum, infrastructure and lecturers,” said Aris Junaidi.

Danuri, permanent lecturer in the PGSD S-1 Study Program at PGRI Yogyakarta University, was declared to have graduated with honors. Danuri was declared to have passed the dissertation examination for the Mathematics Education Doctoral Program at the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Semarang State University, Monday 11 December 2023. He was declared to have passed after passing the exam with the examiners consisting of Prof. Dr. Edy Cahyono, M. Si., Prof. Dr. Wardono, M. Si., Prof. Dr. Ratu Ilma Indra Putri, M. Si., Prof. Dr. St. Budi Waluya, M. Si., Dr. Drs. Sugiman, B. Sc., M. Si., and Prof. Dr. Y. L. Sukestiyarno, M. S., Ph. D.
Danuri in his dissertation entitled “Numeracy Literacy and Math Self Concept of Inclusive Elementary School Students in an E-Module Based Differentiated Learning Model” revealed that numeracy literacy and math self concept both influence the development of a person’s knowledge and self-skills. He also revealed the fact that inclusive elementary schools are not yet facilitated with learning that accommodates numeracy literacy and math self-concept.
The results of the research show that numeracy literacy is in poor criteria, while math self-concept is in good criteria. Numeracy literacy and math self-concept are influenced by the quality of teaching, availability of resources, inclusive learning environment, and special educational needs by Special Guidance Teachers (GPK). Apart from that, other influences arise from the level of understanding possessed by students, low numeracy literacy criteria, learning motivation, and the child’s sense of will. Meanwhile, math self-concept is influenced by previous learning experiences, quality of teaching, support from peers, and inclusive schools with GPK. Danuri in his dissertation revealed that barriers to learning are differences in special educational needs, limited resources, teacher skills and knowledge, learning environment, negative stigma towards children with special needs (ABK).

PGSD Universitas PGRI Yogyakarta welcomed the graduation of one of its lecturers. “We feel happy and proud, and don’t forget to congratulate the graduation of one of our lecturers, Mr. Danuri, hopefully the knowledge he has gained can improve the quality of learning at PGSD UPY in particular and PGRI Yogyakarta University in general,” said Beny Dwi Lukito Aji, Head of the UPY PGSD Study Program, in an interview on Monday (11/12/2023).
Danuri was born in Karanganyar, Central Java, he completed his undergraduate studies at UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta, Masters at Yogyakarta State University with a linear major, namely Mathematics Education. He began his career as a lecturer in 2014 at the Primary School Teacher Education Study Program at PGRI University Yogyakarta. Previously, he served as Deputy Dean 3 of the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education and now he serves as Secretary for Public Relations and Protocol at PGRI Yogyakarta University.
Apart from his role as an academic on campus, Danuri is also active in the community as Chair of the MPK SDI Regional Leadership Council of Muhammadiyah DIY and the PNF PDM Sleman Basic Education Council. Not only that, in social activities he also plays a role as Chair of Madrasah Diniyah Ahlus Shufah, State Children’s Halfway House, Literacy Pioneer in My Hamlet and Trustee of the Griya Mada Munadin Foundation. “I hope that I can develop the knowledge I have gained and provide benefits to many people in the future,” concluded Danuri.

On Wednesday, November 29 2023, the International Affairs Office (KUI) of Universitas PGRI Yogyakarta (UPY) carried out a visit to the International Affairs Office of Ahmad Dahlan University (UAD) in the context of a comparative study. The delegation from KUI UPY who attended consisted of Dr. Victor Novianto, S.Pd., M.Hum (Head of KUI), Pebri Prihatmoko, S.Pd. M.Eng (KUI Secretary), and Nugraeni Putrie Windarti (KUI Admin). Meanwhile, from the UAD KUI, Ulaya Ahdiani, S.S., M.Hum. (Head of KUI), Ida Puspita, M.A.Res. (Head of Foreign Cooperation), Zalik Nuryana S.Pd.I., M.Pd.I. (Head of Domestic Cooperation), as well as other staff.

Top of Form During the visit, the International Affairs Office (KUI) of Ahmad Dahlan University (UAD) explained a number of achievements that had been achieved by UAD during the 2019-2023 period. In that five year period, UAD succeeded in attracting the attention of and collaborating with as many as 169 foreign students. This collaboration involves countries such as Korea, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, India, Egypt, Yemen, Sudan and the Philippines. Not only that, KUI UAD also succeeded in winning several international grants, including Eramus + Capacity Building in Higher Education Fund, Management of International DAAD German (2019), Eramus + International Credit Mobility for Student Staff Lecturer (2022-2023), and British Council.

Apart from receiving support from international grants, KUI UAD is also active in implementing various International Outbound Programs, including IISMA, ICT, CTS, PERMATA SAKTI, JOINT DEGREE, SHORT PROGRAM, SEA TEACHER, SEA TVET, INTERNATIONAL KKN, JOINT THESIS WRITING, and TEACHING ALUMNI IN THAILAND. On the other hand, there is also an Inbound Program which involves 2+2 Joint Degree, 3+1 Joint Degree, AIMS, Indonesian Language for Foreign Speakers (BIPA), and Darmasiswa. In the second session, the focus of the discussion was on program funding models to improve the quality of study programs (prodi). UAD implements a Negotiated Costing system, where the budget for each study program is determined based on quality targets which refer to the results of quality audits. The positive impact of implementing the Negotiated Costing system can be seen from the many UAD programs that have been successfully implemented through foreign collaboration. Over the past five years, 169 UAD students have participated in the Inbound program, while 138 students have participated in the Outbound program.

The session also discussed various tips related to relations with the Consular Office of the Republic of Indonesia (KJRI) in order to help Indonesian students who are studying abroad. KUI UAD provided information that the Indonesian Consulate General usually provides support in the form of supplies of basic necessities/food. Apart from that, UAD provides tips for success in the IISMA program, including preparation for one year before implementing IISMA.

Then the final session was marked by the submission of documents extending the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between PGRI Yogyakarta University (UPY) and Ahmad Dahlan University. UPY is represented by Dr. Victor Novianto, M.Hum., while UAD was represented by Ida Puspita, M.A.Res. The event closed with a joint photo session between officials from KUI UPY and KUI UAD, commemorating the moment of signing the agreement.

UPY joined the Global Class program to open up opportunities for students to increase their knowledge and experience of the academic community through international lectures. On this occasion, UPY collaborated with ASEAN-China Private Higher Education Development and Cooperation (ACAPHEI) to form a Global Class program with the lecture material “Language Development”. ACAPHEI is an organization formed by SEAMEO RIHED which aims to promote the development of education in higher education for its members.

This program is a collaborative program involving 4 (four) universities from 3 (three) different countries, namely PGRI Yogyakarta University from Indonesia, Duy Tan University from Vietnam, as well as Zhejiang Yuexiu University and University of Sanya from China. The framework for implementing this program, each university is given 4 (four) opportunities to teach and interact with students from partner universities. Each university sent between 5 and 10 students to take part in this program, so there were 29 participants who joined this international class.

UPY sent 5 (five) students to take part in this program. UPY students who participated in the Global Class “Language Development” were Desylva Rima Kumalasari (English Language Education Study Program), Umi Safangati Hidayatun and Pandu Firmansyah (Management Study Program), Nugraeni Putrie Windarti (Accounting Study Program), and Ari Fitri Utami (Master of Basic Education) . This activity is carried out in full for one semester using the online lecture model on the Microsoft Teams platform. The lecturers who gave lectures in this program were Guruh Ghifar Zalzalah, S.E., M.Sc, from the UPY management study program, Ms. Phan Thi Nhu Uyen from Duy Tan University, Vietnam and 2 lecturers from Zhejiang Yuexiu University and the University of Sanya. Even though classes are held online, students still actively participate in online learning. All learning material in the “Language Development” class is presented in English so that all students can understand it well.

This program will run from October 2023 to February 2024. The 2023 ACAPHEI Student Mobility Program is expected to significantly contribute to increasing students’ global perspectives with universities abroad in the form of student exchanges and international classes. This program is expected to provide long-term benefits for participating students, especially at UPY, helping them become individuals who are more open, think globally, are skilled at communicating internationally, and are ready to face global challenges in the future.
