Many obstacles faced by children with special needs (ABK) when learning mathematics, especially mentally retarded children. Therefore, they need learning media that are attractive and able to facilitate them in learning mathematics. One of them with & nbsp; mathematics picture story & nbsp; (Mapicsto) by PGRI Yogyakarta University (UPY) students.

Mathematics learning method From Kintoko, M.Pd (Lecturer in UPY Mathematics Education Prose). They are students of the Mathematics Education Bachelor Program and Bachelor of Informatics Program in PGRI Yogyakarta University. The design of this book is made arise with the aim that the power to read basic mathematical material in children with mental retardation. & ldquo; its contents are made like stories in daily life for example at school and at home & rdquo; said Chairman of the Mapicsto Fatmawati Innovation Team.

In the story there is an element of mathematics, namely number operations, can be in the form of addition, subtraction, division, and also multiplication. Merging stories with mathematics is packaged in the story of daily life. For example the story of picking mangoes, buying stationery and various other needs. Children can immediately apply the mathematics lesson in the story book. & ldquo; this method makes it easier for them to learn mathematics & rdquo; he said.

Fatma states that this Mapicsto innovation media is indeed specifically designed for mentally retarded children. Because retardation children have limited ability to understand reading without any image or tangible form of an object. So this media makes it easy for children with mental retardation in learning basic mathematics that is applied to the real image of an object in everyday life.

Fatma explained, the idea appeared starting from the experience when there were mentally retarded students near his home who asked him to help learn mathematics. From that experience, it turns out that learning media for ABK children still use ordinary books. This makes children less interested in learning mathematics. & ldquo; so we think to make a learning media innovation for them & rdquo; strictly.
